This Morning's Visitor, "Mr. Berryman"

6x6, Oil
This fine fellow was lying in my strawberry patch, munching berries and waiting for his morning tea. Nice of him to stop by for brunch and a portrait sitting. Today he seems to have moved on.

Evening of a Perfect Day

When it rains a lot here, the front field floods. "Fetch" with water is the best. This is the close of a perfect day.

Tuesday, May 3 painting workshop w/Joshua Been in Augusta, MO

Sunday afternoon of the J. Been painting workshop in Augusta, MO

This painting was done Sunday afternoon, May 1 at the painting workshop. The challenge was to paint fast (a timer was set for one hour) and to block in the painting with very little detail at all. This "emergence" technique was all about letting the details of the painting emerge only in the final passages. I tried to keep the subject matter of the painting very simple, eliminating most of the details in the actual scene (basketball court, houses, cars across the street, the big purple slide, etc. )  I think at the time I was craving a sense of calm and serenity. The park bench and the light on the lawn seemed to offer that.
